# Glossary

> Definitions of the terms used across GoFrame Editor and this documentation, from Agent layout and Blade to Workspace and Word timing lane

Short definitions of the words you'll meet in GoFrame Editor and in these pages, in alphabetical order. Each links to the page that covers it in depth where one exists.

* **Agent**: GoFrame Editor Agent, the AI chat inside every project that edits the timeline, generates media, adds captions and exports. See [Meet GoFrame Editor Agent](/editor/agent).
* **Agent layout**: the chat-first project layout, with the chat in the centre and a dock on the right that shows the **Preview** and **Media** tabs once the agent produces results. New projects open here. See [Editor layout](/editor/editor-layout).
* **Animate preset**: a ready-made In or Out animation for a clip (Fade, Grow, Shrink, Slide, Spin, Twist, or Gain for audio). See [Animate clips with presets and keyframes](/editor/animation-and-keyframes).
* **Ask mode**: a chat mode in which the agent answers questions and explains without changing the timeline.
* **Blade**: the timeline tool (`B`) that cuts a clip where you click. The Select tool (`V`) is the default. See [Edit clips](/editor/edit-clips).
* **Captions**: on-screen text built from the transcript and styled with presets in the Captions panel. See [Captions](/editor/captions).
* **Captions page**: one screen's worth of caption words. Pacing (words per page) and page breaks in the word timing lane decide where pages start.
* **Clip**: one item on a track: video, audio, image, text, shape, caption or motion graphic.
* **Cloud Sync**: uploading an imported file from your browser to the cloud, per asset or automatically. Until then the file is **Local only**. See [Import media](/editor/import-media).
* **Credits**: the currency for agent prompts, AI generation and transcription; 1 credit = \$0.01. See [Plans and credits](/editor/plans-and-credits).
* **Edit proposal**: the card the agent shows before a large change, with a **Timeline impact** headline, each edit's range, change, risk and reasoning, and **Apply plan** / **Revise**. See [Review proposals and approve actions](/editor/proposals-and-permissions).
* **Editor layout**: the full editing layout with left panels, Preview in the centre, chat on the right and the Timeline at the bottom. Toggle with `⌘.`.
* **In/Out zone**: the range between an In point (`I`) and an Out point (`O`) on the timeline. It doubles as the export range; `⇧X` clears it.
* **Inspector**: the panel with the selected clip's properties: position, size, opacity, audio, effects, animation. See [Inspector: clip properties](/editor/inspector).
* **Invite code**: a closed-beta code in the form `GF-XXXX-XXXX`. See [Sign in and beta access](/editor/sign-in-and-access).
* **Karaoke highlight**: a caption style that colours each word as it is spoken. The Karaoke preset group is built on it.
* **Keyframe**: a stored value for a property (opacity, position, rotation, scale or volume) at one point in time; the clip animates between keyframes.
* **Marker**: a named, coloured point on the timeline (`M`) used for notes and navigation. See [Timeline basics](/editor/timeline-basics).
* **Media pool**: everything imported, recorded or generated in a project. See [Organize the Media pool](/editor/media-pool).
* **Memory**: facts the agent keeps across sessions, scoped to a workspace or a project. See [Agent rules, memory and voice](/editor/agent-settings).
* **Motion graphic**: an animated graphic the agent generates, such as a lower third, title, chart or logo reveal. See [Motion graphics](/editor/motion-graphics).
* **NLE export**: **Project for editing (NLE)**, a Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or OpenTimelineIO timeline plus a caption .srt for finishing elsewhere. See [Export for Final Cut, Premiere and Resolve](/editor/export-for-nle).
* **Permission request**: the card asking you to approve a skill or tool that costs credits, with **Deny**, **Approve once** and **Always**.
* **Plan mode**: the **Plan** toggle in chat. The agent proposes a plan first and waits for **Approve & run** or **Request changes**.
* **Playhead**: the vertical line marking the current time on the timeline; Preview shows that frame.
* **Preview**: the player, in the right dock in Agent layout or the centre of Editor layout.
* **Reasoning mode**: the **Reasoning** chat mode, in which the agent shows its thinking before acting.
* **Ripple**: an edit that shifts everything after it so no gap is left: ripple delete (`⇧⌫`) or ripple trim (`⇧` + drag).
* **Scene**: a frame on the Storyboard that groups related images, video and text nodes.
* **Skill**: a packaged ability of the agent, such as `/captions`, `/image-gen` or `/export-video`, run with `/` or plain language. See [Skills and workflows](/editor/skills).
* **Skimmer**: hold `Alt` and move over the timeline to preview at the cursor without moving the playhead.
* **Slash command**: a chat command typed with `/`, such as `/undo`, `/plan`, `/compact` or `/model`. See [Write prompts, references and commands](/editor/prompting).
* **Snapping**: clips, the playhead and markers snap to each other while you drag. Toggle with `N`.
* **Snapshot**: a version you save by hand with **Save snapshot** in **Version history**.
* **Storyboard**: the board for generating images and video as nodes and assembling them onto the timeline. See [Storyboard](/editor/storyboard).
* **Text FX**: text reveal animations, By word, By letter or Scramble, applied to a text clip. See [Text and shapes](/editor/text-and-shapes).
* **Timeline changes**: the row in the chat after an agent edit (for example **+1 added**) that expands to list what was added, removed, moved or trimmed, with **Revert**.
* **Toolbox & VFX**: the panel holding Video Transitions to drag onto cuts. See [Transitions](/editor/transitions).
* **Track**: a horizontal lane on the timeline. Video tracks are named V1, V2, …; audio tracks A1, A2, ….
* **Transcript**: the text of an asset's speech with word timings and speakers, produced by **Transcribe**. Editing it edits the video. See [Edit video by editing text](/editor/transcript-editing).
* **Transition**: an effect between two adjacent clips, such as Cross Dissolve or Dip to Black, at least 2 frames long.
* **Version**: an entry in **Version history**, where every change is a commit (manual snapshots, editing sessions, AI checkpoints) you can restore without losing anything. See [Version history and autosave](/editor/version-history).
* **Word timing lane**: the caption lane on the timeline where you adjust per-word timing, page breaks and hidden words.
* **Workflow**: a multi-step skill (names start with `wf-`, such as `/wf-talking-head`) that chains several skills into one job.
* **Workspace**: the container for projects, memory, rules and team members, with roles Owner, Admin, Member and Viewer. See [Settings](/editor/settings).
